Our doctrinal basis contains the fundamental truths of the Christian faith, including:

  1. The divine inspiration and infallibility of the Holy Scripture as originally given and its supreme authority in all matters of faith and conduct.

  2. The unity of the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit in the Godhead.

  3. The universal sinfulness and guilt of human nature since the fall, rendering humanity subject to God’s wrath and condemnation.

  4. The conception of Jesus Christ by the Holy Spirit and his birth by the Virgin Mary.

  5. Redemption from the guilt, penalty and power of sin only through the sacrificial death, as our representative and substitute, of Jesus Christ, the Incarnate Son of God.

  6. The bodily resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead.

  7. The necessity of the work of the Holy Spirit to make the death of Christ effective in individual sinners, granting them repentance towards God, and faith in Jesus Christ.

  8. The indwelling and work of the Holy Spirit in the believer.

  9. The expectation of the personal return of the Lord Jesus Christ.

Our mission on campus is to…

Reach Out

We are dedicated to serving and loving every single person on campus. We want to share the truth of God, who loved us so much that he sent his only Son to die on the cross for us so that we may have a relationship and eternal life with him. Our desire is for people at Melbourne University to accept Jesus as their saviour and lead lives that glorify him.

Build Up

We encourage those who serve God as Christ’s ambassadors on campus, to demonstrate the relevance of their faith in every area of our lives and the world. We equip our leaders with biblical training and mentoring. We encourage and support our members through these formal trainings and prayer.

Send Out

The gospel of Jesus impacts lives and directs our futures. We challenge our community to consider the implications of the gospel for what they will do with their lives. We seek to generate an active and informed interest in the work of God, through his people, all over the world.

Melbourne University Christian Union (MUCU) is student-run. Our executive committee oversees the mission and operations of the club as a whole, while our faculty group leaders focus on engaging and bringing together smaller student groups.

Melbourne University Christian Union is staff-supported. As a member of the Australian Fellowship of Evangelical Students, we are supported by experienced staff workers who provide teaching, training and discipleship.

We are affiliated with the Graduate Christian Union (GCU) for Honours, Graduate and Postgraduate students. Sharing the same beliefs and mission, they run their own weekly bible studies and events and join us for broader Christian Union events.

If you’re a student in medicine or healthcare who is a Christian or is interesting in exploring Christianity, the Graduate Christian Union Medicine (GCU Med) is the community for you. They are also affiliated with the Christian Medical and Dental Fellowship of Australia (CMDFA).
